The film is a remake of Anders Matthesen’s 2009 Norwegian film ‘Sorte kugler’ {also known as ‘What Goes Around’}. The story revolves around a selfish realtor with huge debts, who meets with an accident. As he gains consciousness, he realizes he is in heaven.
Chitragupta appears before him and informs him that she will have to play a ‘Game of Life’. If you manage to win, you will be sent back to earth and if you lose, you will be sent back to hell!

Thank God Movie Review: A family artist who is stuck in the 90s
Plot Summary: Ayaan is a selfish and selfish but tough lucky real estate agent who meets with a car accident and goes to heaven. There he meets Chitragupt and needs to play the “Game of Life” which will decide whether to return to Earth or Hell, depending on his actions. Will he win the game and join his wife and daughter?
Review: The film quickly establishes Ayaan Kapoor (Sidharth Malhotra) as a successful but amoral realtor who is deeply in debt and needs to sell his bungalow to pay it off. As he struggles to close a deal, he often takes his stress out on the wife of the police, Ruhi Kapoor (Rakul Preet Singh). On her daughter’s birthday, while rushing to meet a potential client, Ayaan gets into a car accident and regains consciousness in heaven, where his actions will be judged. At this point you can already predict the progress of the process since you already know the character of Ayaan.
Written by Aakash Kaushik and Madhur Sharma, the simplistic story leaves little to the imagination and the audience can predict how things will turn out. Most of the events that the trial will be based on are predictable and things become too convenient for the protagonist, Ayaan.
Director Indra Kumar sets out to present an entertainer with a message about karma and stays on track without making the narrative too heavy or dark. Chitragupt or CG (Ajay Devgn), YD or Yamdoot (Mahesh Balraj) and apsaras are given modern avatars to make viewing more attractive and recognizable. There are references to Devgn Singham’s successful franchise and a nod to Kaun Banega Crorepati. The premise is mostly dialogue driven, but the addition of flashbacks, encounters with YDs and apsaras, and “lifelines” breaks up the monotony.
The creators could have paid more attention to the CGI, which looks misleading in many parts. Though Ajay Devgn plays his role as a stern yet caring deity well, the role is too simplistic for a powerful actor like him. Sidharth plays the unprincipled and self-centered man earnestly, but things would have been more interesting if the character of him had more depth to make the process more engaging. Rakul, as his most talented and supportive wife, is decent.
Lead actors Kanwaljeet Singh and Seema Pahwa have cameos as Ayaan’s parents but showcase their acting skills. The story is stuck in the 90s and oversimplified, but the movie is easy to watch. It might find favor with audiences who want a clean performer, as the film has a message or two about moving forward through tribulations, being human, and the importance of family.
